We last wrote about Comedy Gold back in January (https://penangfreesheet.my/comedy-gold-volume-2-january-19th-2019/), and are delighted to report that this monthly stand-up comedy event is going from strength to strength. Every month it has been completely sold out, and the crowded upstairs room at Kim Haus on Campbell Street has reverberated with the sound of deep belly laughs. The standard of comedians that KL-based comedian and organiser of Comedy Gold, Justin Heyes, has succeeded in attracting to Penang has been consistently high, and despite hiccups in Kim Haus’s bar service and sometimes air conditioning arrangements, everyone attending has a good time.
The next edition of Comedy Gold, volume 6, is certain to be a sell-out again, so our advice is to buy your tickets as soon as possible. Why? Because the headliner will be Singaporean Jinx Yeo. Self-styled Asian nerd Jinx Yeo is an award-winning Singaporean comedian who performs regularly on the stand-up circuit in Singapore, and has appeared on Comedy Central Asia, Channel 5’s “Ok Chope”, and ABCTV’s “Comedy Up Late”. He has entertained sold-out crowds in 16 countries (including Australia, China, New Zealand, India, UK, and even Germany) and his routine lambasting British colonisation went viral on Youtube.
Warming up the crowd for Jinx will be Malaysian comedian Gajen Nad, who consistently raises the roof in clubs and at corporate events with his unique take on being a half Chinese, half Indian, who looks like a half Malay but is always mistaken for a foreigner. KL-based Brit, Justin Heyes returns with his honest and personal reflections of his own experiences of life in Malaysia as a comedian married to a Malay, and will likely experiment with some of the new material he is preparing for his appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year. And opening as usual will be Penang’s favourite comedian Garu.
Comedy Gold volume 6 takes place on 18th May 2019 at 9.00pm at Kim Haus, Campbell Street. The price is RM30 for tickets bought in advance or RM35 at the door, if there are any left. Buy tickets here: https://comedygoldvol6.peatix.com
