The Russians have always been known for doing circus better than any other nation, and luckily for us here in Malaysia, the Moscow Circus has come to town! Recently opened in KL, the circus is on an 8-month 10-city tour of Malaysia, and will be in Penang from September 13th until 30th, erecting their 2,700 seater fully air-conditioned big top tent in Queensbay Mall’s carpark for the duration.

Performers have been selected from two of the best and most well-known Russian circus companies, the Bolshoi Circus (aka The Moscow State Circus at Vernadsky Prospekt) and the Nikulin Moscow Circus, promising a circus extravaganza on a scale never-before-seen here in Penang.

There are no animal acts. Instead you will witness master jugglers, high speed roller skating acrobatics, romantic aerial silk routines, illusionists carrying out dazzling changes of clothes, terrifying hire wire balancing and trapeze acts, world-class gravity defying tumblers, and a hilarious clown to bring light relief and laughter in between acts. In all, the show runs for two hours and includes nearly 40 performers. You can see videos of some of the main acts here.

Tickets to the show cost RM 50 for seats at the back, and go as high as RM 280 for the chance to sit ringside and risk being asked on stage with the clown…There is a 20% discount for senior citizens, children below 12 years old and those with special needs. Showtimes are Tuesday to Friday 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 4:30pm & 8PM. The circus is closed on Mondays and also on Tuesday the 18th September.
