The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge has been leading the chapel services in this ancient university college since 1866, although has only included female voices since 1971. Subsequently it has gained an international reputation as one of the leading university choral groups in the world.

The choir is currently on tour in Asia, and is performing at the Hong Kong City Hall on Monday 5th September, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore on Wednesday 7th & Friday 9th September, and at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas Hall in KL on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th September, where they are performing Faure’s Requiem and the Bernstein Chichester Psalms, together with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Luckily for us, they are taking a short holiday here in Penang, and have agreed to give a small private performance on Sunday 11th.

There are 25 singers travelling and they will perform a largely a cappella concert ranging over centuries of music, from William Byrd’s  Laudibus in Sanctis, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf, Gustav Holst’s Nunc dimittis and George Gershwin’s Summertime.

The performance will take place at Bellevue Hotel on Penang Hill, at 8pm on Sunday 11th September, with tickets costing RM 60 including a buffet supper. Reserve via bellevuecultureclub@gmail.com
