The next in the regular series of recitals organised by the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra stars  Malaysian piano prodigy, Elaine Yap Sin Yee, performing on the PPO’s Steinway piano at the Star Building on Pitt Street. A regular performer and accompanist in both Malaysia and Singapore, she has also performed in Thailand, Japan and the Netherlands and collaborates with orchestras including  the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center Orchestra, the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra Singapore and our own Penang Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as with chamber groups. Sin Yee will perform piano solo pieces ranging in time and style, including Italian Baroque-era composer Domenico Scarlatti’s sonatas in D Major and D Minor, one of the last sonatas Beethoven ever wrote (number 30 in E Major), Schumann’s Fantaisie in C Major, which is perhaps his greatest work for solo piano, and is one of the central works of the early Romantic period, and early 20th Century Russian composer Alexander Scriabin’s one movement Sonata number 5.

The recital takes place this coming Saturday June 23rd at 8pm at the Star Building on Pitt Street. Tickets can be purchased from Bentley Music in Gurney Paragon, or from the PPO (admin@penangphilharmonic.org), and are priced at RM 50 (RM 30 for students).
