The Great British Circus is, well, great, very British, and definitely a circus! An evening at this circus takes you back to “the olden days” with its good, clean, family-friendly fun, but it is bang up-to-date with the latest in circus tricks and comic characters; Spiderman and Superman both fly through the air…

The touring circus is on a 6 week stop in Penang, and has its big top set up in the Queensbay Mall carpark.

The two-hour performance passes in a blink of an eye.

It is a very slick operation: music and lights are perfectly choreographed to accompany each act, and an entertaining clown keeps the kids from getting bored while major scene changes are underway.

Children are also entertained before the show and during the fifteen minute interval by being offered face painting and the chance to take photos of themselves with some of the circus performers.

High-kicking dancers in gorgeous sparkly clothes introduce acrobatics, juggling, hoop spinning and high-speed clothes changing acts.

Two of them take to the air on aerial silks for a beautiful and amazing, involving doing the splits,hands-free, high, high above the floor, and tumbling down the silks until coming to a rest mere inches above the ground.

But this is by no means a show only for children. Adults are on the edges of their seats during death-defying performances on the trapeze, the wheel of death, and the globe of death. The tension of the trapeze is taken down a notch when a clown joins the artistes on the high platform and drops his shoes down by parachute.

But the wheel of death’s two daredevils keep trying to take it further, by using a skipping rope or even blindfolding themselves while running on top of the spinning cages. And just when you think it is completely impossible, another motorcyclists revs up his engine and joins the others in the globe of death.
