Fancy FOURPLAY this Valentines?

Four directors, four original plays, four languages (or is it 3.5?)…sorry not what you were thinking!

This year take your Valentine out for a spot of theatre. In conjunction with Valentine’s Day, the Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac) offers up a variety platter of love in its latest production – FOURPLAY. The plays will be presented in English, Mandarin the and Penang Hokkien dialect (with English subtitles).
FOURPLAY will open with its first play directed by Wong Lay Chin, penangpac’s director-in-residence, who previously directed ‘Perfectly Matched’. Aptly titled Pak Tor? (which means ‘dating’ in Hokkien), it tells the story of how two strangers court one another while the conversation in their heads run wild, something we have all experienced while dating someone!

Christopher Preslar, who directed penangpac’s ‘The Glass Menagerie’ in 2016, is back with actors Ivan Gabriel and Tan Seoh Chen, to present the second play, entitled The View, that explores the fallacy of love and loss that can be overcome by one’s ability to forgive, while a young woman awaits the return of her husband.

The third play, The Swing, directed by ‘Corner of the City’ series director Alvie Cheng, reveals the moments of affection between two lovers when a stranger constantly gets in between them.

And for the finale, the creator of the popular SYIOK SENDIRI comedy series John S. de Silva will delight the audience with laughter with his short play My Aunt Pamela, featuring the famous Puan Pamela Rodrigues. This time, Pamela’s niece Rita is sent to stay with her, as part of her brother’s feeble attempt to help her “heal” after losing her husband to her former best friend. This will be the last time you get to watch the character Puan Pamela Rodrigues as SYIOK SENDIRI recently announced her retirement, so don’t miss it!

Mark your calendars today and get your tickets, and you and your loved ones can spread your love to charitable causes: 10% of all tickets sales for FOURPLAY will be donated to Cancer Research Malaysia, a not-for-profit research organisation dedicated to finding a cure for cancer.

FOURPLAY will be staged from 17 – 19 February 2017 with four performances at stage 2, penangpac, Straits Quay. Showtime on Friday is 8:30pm, Saturday at 3pm and 8:30pm, and Sunday at 3pm. Ticket price is RM40 for adults; and RM30 for students, physically-challenged individuals, senior citizens above 60, and TAS Card holders.
