The annual Christmas concert of the Actors Studio Chorus and Orchestra at penangpac is a popular event in the run up to the festive season, and as usual tickets are selling fast. This is the eighth Family Christmas Concert to be directed in Penang by Martin Rutherford and the fifth to be presented at penangpac.  Many of the performers have sung or played every year since the first concert in 2010.

Around 60 singers from penangpac’s resident choir will perform this year, accompanied by twenty-five hand-picked top quality orchestral musicians. Every year, the choir and orchestra regale the packed auditorium with Christmas favourites, including traditional carols and other celebrated classic seasonal songs. The audience is provided with all the words on a printed programme, and is encouraged to join in and sing along at various moments. To keep things interesting for choir and orchestra as well as the regulars in the audience, each year less well-known carols are introduced too.

The concert is intended to be kid-friendly, with youngsters given the chance to take over the baton and conduct the choir and orchestra, and an appearance by Santa Claus with the requisite sack full of presents.

This year, the concert takes place at penangpac on level 3A of Straits Quay on December 22nd and 23rd, at 8.30pm each night. Tickets are priced at RM 40 for adults, and RM 30 for students, the physically-challenged, and senior citizens above 60, and can be purchased from the box office at penangpac directly or at Ticketpro.
