Environmental friendly ‘wayang kulit’ (shadow play)? Definitely an innovative way to spread awareness about recycling!

Plastic City is a contemporary shadow play with upcycled objects. It addresses the issue of overwhelming amounts of disposable plastic products in our world.

Plastic is non-biodegradable but this doesn’t stop us humans from using an insane amount of disposable plastic products every single day. Have you ever imagined where would all these used disposable plastics go? We are living in a literal ‘Plastic World’ in our own ‘Plastic Cities’, which this play nicely depicts.

All materials used are collected recyclable items that have been thrown away. The Plastic City Theatre Troupe personally collected all the props to give abandoned plastic objects a second chance to be useful, and to let them speak their inner voices. Flashlights are used to project their message out on the screen.

Plastic City is presented to you by the Plastic City Theatre Troupe and supported by the Penang Green Council. It is a 45-min non-verbal shadow play, and is suitable for kids (4 years old and above) and adults.

Plastic City will be staged from 3 – 5 March 2017 with four performances at stage 2, penangpac, Straits Quay. Showtime on Friday is 8:00pm, Saturday at 3pm and 8:00pm (SOLD OUT), and Sunday at 3pm. Ticket price is RM35 for adults; and RM25 for students, physically-challenged individuals, senior citizens above 60, and TAS Card holders.
