The Penang Street Food Festival is back for its third year, with two days dedicated to Penang’s favourite cuisine. This year’s food extravaganza will bring together around 100 hawkers, with something to appeal to everyone’s taste buds, all crammed within a few temporarily pedestrianised streets in the heritage district of George Town. It will run from 5pm until 11pm on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November.
Once again, Beach Street, the old financial district within the heritage zone of George Town, will be closed to traffic. The adjoining streets (Bishop and Church/Gereja) will be lined with hawker stalls and crammed with tables for diners to sit and enjoy the food and the ambiance. Buskers will be on hand to entertain the anticipated crowds. Two stages will be set up – the main stage near OCBC Bank and a mini-stage near AmBank – where dance performances, cooking demonstrations and other activities will take place, and there will also be a funfair. At 9pm on Saturday night there will be a firework display.
Well-known hawkers and restaurants from the island and the mainland will set up stalls for the two evenings. Amongst others you will be able to try food from Hameediyah, Mamu Roti Canai Penanga, Bukit Mertajam Yam Rice, Bukit Mertajam Duck Egg Char KoayTeow, Song River BBQ Chicken Wing, Dangai Warisan, Pulau Tikus Nyonya Laksa, Pantai Bersih Laksa Kedah and Vegetarian Nasi Ulam and Rendang Burger by Lily’s VegetarianKitchen.
