KL-based theatre group Kudoclasm was recently here in Penang for the first time, performing Erica’s Room (see https://penangfreesheet.my/ericas-room-family-drama-march-9th-11th-2018/). Tickets are now on sale for their upcoming comedy show, On a Starry Night, which will also be performed at Black Kettle, on March 30th, 31st and April 1st. The group describe the play as “a Christmas story for all ages”, in which two shepherds are visited by Angie the angel to deliver a message of good news to them, and realises she has appeared to the wrong shepherds.
Although based on the traditional story of Christmas, it is a show appropriate for any time of year as it’s real aim is to inspire hope, interspersed with plenty of fun and silliness, and an appearance by the Devil! The comedy is Kudoclasm’s tribute to Monty Python, with dollops of Benny Hill and Fawlty Towers added for good measure.
The play was first performed in KL last year, where it received very positive audience feedback from adults and children alike. Kudoclasm, a new theatre production company, was founded in 2016 by actors who had met during the Short and Sweet Festival hosted by KLPAC (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre), and shared a common desire to tell stories that resonate with Malaysians, and to make theatre a full time profession, something which is extraordinarily difficult to do in Malaysia. The members of the company love Penang, and are already planning their third visit in April, with a new production entitled After Earl.
There will be three performances, on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st March at 7.30pm, and on Sunday April 1st at 3.30pm, upstairs at Black Kettle, 105, Beach St, George Town. The tickets are priced at RM 32 (and RM 26 for concessions) and can be purchased at https://
