Malaysia’s stand-up comedians are a talented and gutsy group of people, using the stage to take on the Malaysian religious and political establishment while keeping the audience falling off their seats with laughter. One of the top practitioners of the craft is also one of the only Malaysian female comedians, Joanne Kam. She is back in Penang this weekend with her latest one-woman show, and if you can still get a ticket you should!

In this show, Joanne will open up her life story, telling stories of her childhood in Ipoh, Penang, Johor and KL, and her early stage experiences. It promises to showcase her usual clever and risqué brand of comedy while shedding light on the trials and tribulations backstage, as a single mother, as Malaysia’s Comedy Sweetheart, and as a woman.

Recently on tour in Australia, Joanne was described there as an “absolute comedy queen, Kam’s spicy tongue and filthy antics were initially disguised by her glitz and glamour – but it didn’t take long for the full extent of Kam’s nasty, vulgar anecdotes to emerge (but let’s be honest, they’re the best kind of anecdotes). A true artist of comedic timing, Kam has an extraordinary knack for stand-up – it’s a shame she was only here for two nights” themusic.com.au

She is performing for two nights in Penang, at penangpac, Straits Quay. The show begins at 8.30pm each night and lasts approximately 90 minutes. Tickets cost RM 68 and can be purchased here.
